Coronavirus Update - 24th February 2022

Earlier this week the Prime Minister outlined the plan for Living with COVID-19 which saw the eradication of all remaining domestic restrictions in England as of Thursday 24th February 2022

Along with all other healthcare providers, we have been notified by NHS England that there will no change to current infection control measures within healthcare settings which is why we will continue to ask patients to wear masks on our premises and to practice social distancing until further notice.

By keeping these measures in place we can minimise disruption to our service and also ensure those most vulnerable are still protected when accessing care.

Welcome to Royal Primary Care

Royal Primary Care comprises two sites in Clay Cross – Clay Cross and Grassmoor as well as six sites in Chesterfield – Grangewood, Inkersall, Staveley, Ashgate, Whittington and Holme Hall and one in Heanor – Brooklyn.

We provide primary care services for around 10000 patients across our two sites Clay Cross and Grassmoor.

Royal Primary Care Chesterfield and Clay Cross are part of Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. We operate as the Division of Primary Care alongside the other Trust Divisions: Clinical Specialist Services, Medicine and Emergency Care, Surgical Specialities and Women and Childrens.

The Royal Primary Care Team

In order to provide the best service in a challenging time for the NHS we have a mix of health care professionals that make up our Primary Care Team.

Care Navigators – our call handlers and receptionists are trained to help navigate you to the most appropriate member of our health care team, its not always the Doctor you need to see! ALL of our staff abide by the same professional and confidentiality standards. They will ask you details about the reason you are requesting an appointment.

Our Practice Nursing Team is able to deal with a wide variety of issues including long-term health conditions such as diabetes and COPD, cervical screening (smears), contraception and travel health clinics.

Our Specialist Mental Health Practitioners are skilled in managing all aspects of mental health and work closely with the GPs and the Community Mental Health Services.

Our Advanced Nurse Practitioners are a key part of the clinical team and take part in the “duty” or “on call” role, do home visits and nursing home ward rounds. ANPs are experienced nurses who have undertaken extensive further training in order to be able to manage a wide variety of clinical problems. We have great confidence in our ANPs and they are able to deal with many medical problems.

GPs – Our GPs form the core of the Primary Care Team. Many of our GPs have special clinical interests, however all are able to manage general medical and health problems.

Across all of our 9 Royal Primary Care sites in April 2022 we offered 18,300 appointments, sadly 748 were appointments that were booked and then missed. 748 appointments cumulatively adds up to £22,400 loss to the NHS.

We appreciate that sometimes plans and commitments change and you may no longer need or aren't able to attend an appointment, but it's really important that you let us know so that appointment can be offered to other patients.

You can cancel your appointment by:

  • Telephoning the surgery and using our dedicated cancellation voicemail facility
  • Replying to your appointment text message reminder
  • Via SystmOnline or the NHS app (if you already have an account set up)

Royal Primary Care Clay Cross was inspected by the CQC in April 2019. This was a comprehensive inspection covering all aspects of the service provided by RPC.

Royal Primary Care Clay Cross has been rated overall as GOOD.

This is testament to the hard work and dedication of the RPC team and independent proof that the services RPC offers to its patients have continued to improve since our last inspection in May 2018.

The achievement of CQC GOOD is a significant milestone for Royal Primary Care and we continue to work hard to further improve services for our patients.
